First Substitute H.B. 259

Senator Peter C. Knudson proposes the following substitute bill:

1 USE OF STATE ARMORIES
2 2002 GENERAL SESSION
3 STATE OF UTAH
4 Sponsor: Cindy Beshear
5 This act modifies the Veterans Code to allow any federally chartered veterans' organization
6 free use of armories as long as the use does not interfere with use by the National Guard.
7 This act affects sections of Utah Code Annotated 1953 as follows:
8 AMENDS:
9 71-3-1, Utah Code Annotated 1953
10 Be it enacted by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
11 Section 1. Section 71-3-1 is amended to read:
12 71-3-1. Use of armories by veterans' organizations permitted.
13 [Under such regulations as the state armory board may prescribe, any organization of
14 veterans of the Civil War, the war with Spain or the World War] Any federally chartered veterans'
15 organization shall have the right to the free use of armories owned or leased by the state;
16 provided[, such] that the use [shall] does not interfere with the use of the [same] armories by the
17 national guard or organized militia of this state.
