6 This concurrent resolution of the Legislature and the Governor recognizes the members of
7 American Gold Star Mothers, Incorporated, and Blue Star Mothers of America,
8 Incorporated, for their sacrifices and for their patriotic support of the United States. The
9 resolution also encourages members of the immediate families of individuals serving in the
10 armed forces to display the Blue Star Service Banner during the period in which the armed
11 forces are engaged in the war on terrorism.
12 Be it resolved by the Legislature of the state of Utah, the Governor concurring therein:
13 WHEREAS, created in 1917, the Blue Star Service Banner was a common site in America's
14 neighborhoods during World Wars I and II;
15 WHEREAS, the Blue Star Service Banner was displayed by families with a son or daughter
16 serving in the armed forces;
17 WHEREAS, display of the Blue Star Service Banner honors and recognizes the men and
18 women in uniform, and demonstrates to all Americans how many families have a personal stake
19 in the war on terrorism;
20 WHEREAS, the members of American Gold Star Mothers, Incorporated, and Blue Star
21 Mothers of America, Incorporated, merit recognition for their sacrifices and for their dedicated and
22 patriotic support of the United States;
23 WHEREAS, the American Legion has instituted a program known as "Operation
24 Reconnect" which endeavors to reconnect the men and women of the armed forces of the United
25 States to local communities;
26 WHEREAS, by providing information and services to the members of the armed forces
27 through the American Legion's "Operation Reconnect" program, it is hoped that the members of
28 today's armed forces will understand the importance of belonging to an organization that is fighting
29 for their interests and the interests of all veterans;
30 WHEREAS, the American Legion also offers assistance, information, and services to
31 military personnel and their families;
32 WHEREAS, during the period in which the armed forces are engaged in the war on
33 terrorism, the American Legion encourages Legionnaires and local American Legion posts to
34 purchase and present Blue Star Service Banners to the families in their communities who have a
35 relative serving in the war on terrorism; and
36 WHEREAS, by displaying the Blue Star Service Banner in the windows of their homes,
37 these families display their pride and patriotism and provide a potent reminder that the war on
38 terrorism reaches close to everyone's home:
39 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of the state of Utah, the
40 Governor concurring therein, recognizes the members of the American Gold Star Mothers,
41 Incorporated, and Blue Star Mothers of America, Incorporated, for their sacrifices and for their
42 dedicated and patriotic support of the United States.
43 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED the Legislature and the Governor encourage members of
44 the immediate family of individuals serving in the armed forces to display the Blue Star Service
45 Banner during the period in which the armed forces are engaged in the war on terrorism.
46 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be sent to the American
47 Legion, the Blue Star Mothers of America, Incorporated, and the American Gold Star Mothers,
48 Incorporated.
