This resolution of the Senate designates February 14, 2002, as Discover Navajo - People of
the Fourth World Day during the 2002 Olympic Winter Games in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Be it resolved by the Senate of the state of Utah:
WHEREAS, the Discover Navajo Foundation 2002, a nonprofit organization, has
successfully completed a state-of-the-art 11,000 square foot pavilion at the Gateway Center in
downtown Salt Lake City to house the Discover Navajo - People of the Fourth World exhibit;
WHEREAS, the Discover Navajo - People of the Fourth World exhibit has been sanctioned
by the Cultural Olympiad of the 2002 Olympic Winter Games;
WHEREAS, the Discover Navajo - People of the Fourth World exhibit has been four years
in development;
WHEREAS, the Navajo code talkers who served in the Pacific during World War II are
featured in the exhibit;
WHEREAS, the Navajo Tribal Government has completely supported the efforts of the
Discover Navajo Foundation 2002;
WHEREAS, the Navajo-Diné Nation is the largest nation tribe in the state; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Johnny Miller has been and remains a strong supporter of the Navajo
people by raising over $2 million in scholarship money for Navajo students:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the state of Utah designates
February 14, 2002, as Discover Navajo - People of the Fourth World Day during the 2002 Olympic
Winter Games in Salt Lake City, Utah.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be presented to Mr. Kelsey
Begay, Mr. Elmer Yazzie, Mr. Tom Lovell, the Navajo-Diné Nation, Mr. Johnny Miller, and the
Utah Division of Indian Affairs.
