Representative Patricia W. Jones proposes the following substitute bill:

1 ELEMENTARY SCHOOL VENDING MACHINE
2 SALES
3 2003 GENERAL SESSION
4 STATE OF UTAH
5 Sponsor: Patricia W. Jones
6 This act amends the State System of Public Education. The act provides that after a
7 certain time period elementary schools may sell only certain food products through
8 vending machines on premises accessible to students.
9 This act affects sections of Utah Code Annotated 1953 as follows:
10 ENACTS:
11 53A-15-1001, Utah Code Annotated 1953
12 Be it enacted by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
13 Section 1. Section 53A-15-1001 is enacted to read:
14 Part 10. Promoting Nutrition
15 53A-15-1001. Vending machines.
16 (1) After the date specified in Subsection (2), if an elementary school chooses to locate
17 a vending machine on premises accessible to students, the food products sold in the vending
18 machine may not be foods of minimal nutritional value as defined by the United States
19 Department of Agriculture.
20 (2) The requirements of Subsection (1) shall be met upon h [ the first to occur of the
21 following:
22 (a) ] h the natural expiration or earlier termination of a school's contracts in force with
23 vending machine suppliers h [ ; or
24 (b) May 5, 2006 ] h .
