             6      This act modifies provisions related to concealed weapons by removing the 60-day
             7      restriction on the validity of concealed firearm permits issued by another state or county.
             8      This act affects sections of Utah Code Annotated 1953 as follows:
             9      AMENDS:
             10          76-10-523, as last amended by Chapter 316, Laws of Utah 2001
             11      Be it enacted by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
             12          Section 1. Section 76-10-523 is amended to read:
             13           76-10-523. Persons exempt from weapons laws.
             14          (1) This part and Title 53, Chapter 5, Part 7, Concealed Weapon Act, do not apply to
             15      any of the following:
             16          (a) a United States marshal;
             17          (b) a federal official required to carry a firearm;
             18          (c) a peace officer of this or any other jurisdiction;
             19          (d) a law enforcement official as defined and qualified under Section 53-5-711 ;
             20          (e) a judge as defined and qualified [in] under Section 53-5-711 ;
             21          (f) a common carrier while engaged in the regular and ordinary transport of firearms as
             22      merchandise; or
             23          (g) a nonresident traveling in or through the state, provided that any firearm is:
             24          (i) unloaded; and
             25          (ii) securely encased as defined in Section 76-10-501 .
             26          (2) The provisions of Subsections 76-10-504 (1)(a), (1)(b), and Section 76-10-505 do
             27      not apply to any person to whom a permit to carry a concealed firearm has been issued:



             28          (a) pursuant to Section 53-5-704 ; or
             29          (b) by another state or county.
             30          [(3) (a) Notwithstanding Subsection (2) a concealed firearm permit issued by another
             31      state or county is only valid in this state for 60 consecutive days.]
             32          [(b) In order to carry a concealed firearm, a person that remains in the state for longer
             33      than 60 consecutive days shall obtain a permit pursuant to Section 53-5-704 .]
