             6      This act modifies the Election Code by changing the date that candidates must be
             7      certified for the ballot.
             8      This act affects sections of Utah Code Annotated 1953 as follows:
             9      AMENDS:
             10          20A-5-409, as enacted by Chapter 183, Laws of Utah 1997
             11          20A-9-701, as enacted by Chapter 183, Laws of Utah 1997
             12      Be it enacted by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
             13          Section 1. Section 20A-5-409 is amended to read:
             14           20A-5-409. Certification of candidates to county clerks.
             15          By September [1] 3 of each regular general election year, the lieutenant governor shall
             16      certify to each county clerk the name of each candidate qualified to be printed on the regular
             17      general election ballot for that county clerk's county.
             18          Section 2. Section 20A-9-701 is amended to read:
             19           20A-9-701. Certification of party candidates to county clerks.
             20          By September [1] 3 of each regular general election year, the lieutenant governor shall
             21      certify to each county clerk the names of each candidate, including candidates for president and
             22      vice president, certified by each registered political party as that party's nominees for offices to
             23      be voted upon at the regular general election in that county clerk's county.
