RESOLUTION HONORING LIFE FLIGHT
2 2003 GENERAL SESSION
3 STATE OF UTAH

5 L. Alma Mansell 6 This concurrent resolution of the Legislature and the Governor recognizes the sacrifice of
7 those air ambulance crews who have recently, and in the past, lost their lives in the
8 service of their fellow citizens and expresses sympathy to the families and associates of
9 the crews of both Life Flight and AirMed who have died in the performance of their
10 duties.
11 Be it resolved by the Legislature of the state of Utah, the Governor concurring therein:
12 WHEREAS, on January 10, 2003, an Intermountain Health Care Life Flight helicopter
13 crashed, killing pilot Craig Bingham and paramedic Mario Guerrero and seriously injuring
14 nurse Stein Rosqvist while they were responding to a serious automobile accident;
15 WHEREAS, on January 11, 1998, a University of Utah Hospital AirMed helicopter
16 crashed following the rescue of a critically injured skier, killing pilot Alan Berg, flight nurse
17 Shayne Carnahan, paramedic Tim Hynes, and the injured skier David Anderson;
18 WHEREAS, other dedicated air ambulance crews have been killed or injured
19 throughout the country;
20 WHEREAS, the air ambulance service crews daily put their lives in jeopardy to come
21 to the aid and rescue of their fellow citizens injured in accidents or otherwise in danger;
22 WHEREAS, the brave men and women of the air ambulance services of both Life
23 Flight and AirMed continue to provide these lifesaving services to all members of the
24 community, regardless of their ability to pay; and
25 WHEREAS, these courageous caregivers represent the finest tradition of selfless
26 service and devotion to the cause of saving lives:
27 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of the state of Utah, the

28 Governor concurring therein, recognize the sacrifice of those air ambulance crews who have
29 recently, and in the past, lost their lives in the service of their fellow citizens.
30 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature and the Governor commend the
31 operations of the Intermountain Health Care Life Flight and the University of Utah Hospital
32 AirMed for the application of generous resources which make our community safer and
33 healthier.
34 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature and the Governor express their
35 heartfelt sympathy to the families and associates of the crews of both Life Flight and AirMed
36 who have died in the performance of their duties.
37 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be sent to Stein Rosqvist
38 and to the families of Craig Bingham, Mario Guerrero, Alan Berg, Shayne Carnahan, Tim
39 Hynes, and David Anderson, Intermounatain Health Care and its Life Flight crews, and to the
40 University of Utah Hospital and its AirMed crews.
