7 LONG TITLE
8 General Description:
9 This bill modifies the State System of Higher Education Code by creating a tuition
10 waiver for Job Corps students.
11 Highlighted Provisions:
12 This bill:
13 . requires state institutions of higher education to waive the nonresident portion of
14 tuition for each nonresident undergraduate Job Corps student in the state;
15 . requires the Board of Regents to make rules for the administration of the waivers;
16 and
17 . provides a cap for the number of waivers in effect at any time.

21 This bill takes effect on July 1, 2004.

28 Be it enacted by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
29 Section 1. Section 53B-8e-101 is enacted to read:

31 53B-8e-101. Title.
32 This chapter is known as the "Job Corps Students' Tuition Act."
33 Section 2. Section 53B-8e-102 is enacted to read:
34 53B-8e-102. Definitions.
35 As used in this chapter, "Job Corps student" means a federal Job Corps student who
36 lives in the state.
37 Section 3. Section 53B-8e-103 is enacted to read:
38 53B-8e-103. Tuition waivers for Job Corps students.
39 (1) Beginning in the 2004-05 academic year, a state institution of higher education
40 shall waive the nonresident portion of total tuition charged by public institutions of higher
41 education to each nonresident undergraduate Job Corps student who:
42 (a) is admitted as a full-time, part-time, or summer school student in a program of
43 study leading to a degree or certificate; and
44 (b) submits verification that the student is a Job Corps student.
45 (2) In accordance with Title 63, Chapter 46a, Utah Administrative Rulemaking Act, the
46 board shall make rules for the administration by institutions of higher education of waivers
47 authorized under Subsection (1).
48 (3) The total number of waivers under Subsection (1) H WITHIN THE STATE SYSTEM OF
48a HIGHER EDUCATION h may not exceed a total of 50
49 tuition waivers in effect at any one time.
50 Section 4. Effective date.
51 This bill takes effect on July 1, 2004.
