             7      LONG TITLE
             8      General Description:
             9          This joint resolution of the Legislature urges that additional counties in Utah be added
             10      to the list of counties qualifying for Radiation Exposure Compensation Act (RECA)
             11      funds.
             12      Highlighted Provisions:
             13          This resolution:
             14          .    urges the National Academies' Board on Radiation Effects Research to recommend
             15      that H BOX ELDER, CACHE, RICH, WEBER, MORGAN, DAVIS, SUMMIT, DAGGETT, SALT LAKE,
             15a      TOOELE, WASATCH, DUSCHESNE, UINTAH, UTAH, CARBON, h Juab, Grand, Emery, and Sanpete
             15b      Counties be added to the list of counties
             16      whose citizens may qualify for Radiation Exposure Compensation Act (RECA)
             17      funds.
             18      Special Clauses:
             19          None

             21      Be it resolved by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
             22          WHEREAS, the Radiation Exposure Compensation Act (RECA) provides
             23      compensation to citizens who developed certain cancers as a result of exposure to radioactive
             24      fallout from nuclear tests conducted between January 21, 1951 to October 31, 1958 and June
             25      30, 1962 to July, 1962;
             26          WHEREAS, to qualify, citizens had to be residents of Beaver, Garfield, Iron, Kane,
             27      Wayne, Millard, Piute, San Juan, Sevier, and Washington Counties in Utah;


             28          WHEREAS, some citizens who resided in several counties in Arizona and Nevada also
             29      qualified for compensation under the Act; and
             30          WHEREAS, residents of H BOX ELDER, CACHE, RICH, WEBER, MORGAN, DAVIS, SUMMIT,
             30a      DAGGETT, SALT LAKE, TOOELE, WASATCH, DUCHESNE, UINTAH, UTAH, CARBON, h Juab, Grand,
             30b      Emery, and Sanpete Counties were also exposed
             31      to radiation comparable to the residents of currently eligible counties:
             32          NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of the state of Utah
             33      urges the National Academies' Board on Radiation Effects Research to recommend that H BOX
             33a      ELDER, CACHE, RICH, WEBER, MORGAN, DAVIS, SUMMIT, DAGGETT, SALT LAKE, TOOELE,
             33b      WASATCH, DUSCHESNE, UINTAH, UTAH CARBON h Juab,
             34      Grand, Emery, and Sanpete Counties be added to the list of RECA eligible counties.
             35          BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be sent to the National
             36      Academies' Board on Radiation Effects Research H AND TO THE MEMBERS OF UTAH'S
             36a      CONGRESSIONAL DELEGATION h .
