             7      LONG TITLE
             8      General Description:
             9          This bill provides that local school boards and schools may establish policies regarding
             10      the sale of food products in vending machines accessible to students.
             11      Highlighted Provisions:
             12          This bill:
             13          .    provides that the responsibility for policies regarding the sale of food products in
             14      vending machines belongs to the local school boards; and
             15          .    provides that local school boards and schools may establish policies regarding the
             16      sale of food products in vending machines accessible to elementary school students.
             17      Monies Appropriated in this Bill:
             18          None

             23          53A-3-426, Utah Code Annotated 1953

             25      Be it enacted by the Legislature of the state of Utah:



             26          Section 1. Section 53A-3-426 is enacted to read:
             27          53A-3-426. Public school vending machine sales of food products -- Local policy.
             28          (1) (a) The responsibility to establish policies regarding the sale of food products from
             29      vending machines accessible to students belongs to local school boards.
             30          (b) Local school districts may develop policies regarding the sale of food products in
             31      vending machines accessible to public school students.
             32          (2) In the absence of a local school board policy, the principal of a public school may
             33      determine the school's policy regarding the sale of food products in vending machines
             34      accessible to the school's students.
