7 LONG TITLE
8 General Description:
9 This bill terminates a pilot program for the acquisition and refurbishing of donated
10 computers to be used in the state's public schools.
11 Highlighted Provisions:
12 This bill:
13 . eliminates requirements imposed upon the State Board of Education and
14 Department of Corrections to administer the pilot program, including requirements
15 to annually:
16 . conduct a survey of computer needs in the state's school districts; and
17 . make a progress report to the Education Interim Committee; and
18 . exempts school districts from certain procurement requirements when purchasing
19 computers from, or contracting for the repair or refurbishing of computers with, the
20 Utah Correctional Industries.

31 Be it enacted by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
32 Section 1. Section 53A-1-706 is amended to read:
33 53A-1-706. Purchases of educational technology.
34 (1) (a) A school district or college of education shall comply with Title 63, Chapter 56,
35 [
36 Subsection (1)(b).
37 (b) A school district may purchase computers from, and contract for the repair or
38 refurbishing of computers [
39 with, the Utah Correctional Industries without going through the bidding or competition
40 procedures outlined in Title 63, Chapter 56, Part D, Source Selection and Contract Formation.
41 (2) A school district or college of education may purchase technology through
42 cooperative purchasing contracts administered by the state Division of Purchasing or through
43 its own established purchasing program.
44 Section 2. Repealer.
45 This bill repeals:
46 Section 53A-1-707, Pilot program for acquisition of computers -- Appropriation --
47 Administration of program -- Training and technology center -- Security procedures.
