LONG TITLE
General Description:
This joint resolution of the Legislature honors the life and service of Jade Pusey.
Highlighted Provisions:
This resolution:
. recognizes the dedicated service of Jade Pusey to the state of Utah, its citizens, and
its elected and appointed servants; and
. expresses its condolences and deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Jade
Pusey.
Special Clauses:
None
Be it resolved by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
WHEREAS, in 1996, Jade Pusey graduated from the Police Academy and was certified
as a law enforcement officer with statewide peace officer authority;
WHEREAS, Jade Pusey served Salt Lake County and its citizens for four years as a Salt
Lake County Deputy Sheriff;
WHEREAS, Jade Pusey served the citizens of the entire state of Utah since January
2001 as the Chief of Criminal Investigations in the Office of the Attorney General;
WHEREAS, Jade Pusey worked closely with the Legislature and state and local law
enforcement agencies, as staff, and ultimately as Chairman of the Utah Law Enforcement
Legislative Committee in enacting laws to protect and benefit the people of Utah;
WHEREAS, Jade Pusey has been known as a man who dedicated his life to "protect
and serve" and had a great respect for individual constitutional rights;
WHEREAS, law enforcement personnel are among those who risk their lives to selflessly
serve each one of us and our communities;
WHEREAS, the citizens of Utah should be given the opportunity to recognize and offer
gratitude to law enforcement officers and their families, particularly in their time of dire need, as
a gesture of honor to their duty and sacrifice; and
WHEREAS, Jade Pusey valiantly battled a rare form of cancer called Desmoplastic Small
Round Cell Tumors, which took his life on January 29, 2005:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of the state of Utah
formally recognizes the dedicated service of Jade Pusey to the state of Utah, its citizens, and its
elected and appointed servants.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature expresses its condolences and
deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Jade Pusey.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be sent to the family of Jade
Pusey.
