7 General Description:
8 This bill amends the Health Code to prohibit the Department of Health from purchasing
9 or distributing pediatric vaccines that contain thimerosal.
10 Highlighted Provisions:

12 . prohibits the Department of Health from purchasing or distributing pediatric
13 vaccines that contain thimerosal, except in certain circumstances.

22 Be it enacted by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
23 Section 1. Section 26-10-8 is enacted to read:
24 26-10-8. Purchase and distribution of pediatric vaccines.
25 (1) The department and local health departments may not purchase or distribute a
26 pediatric vaccine necessary for school entry immunization requirements if the vaccine contains
27 thimerosal, unless thimerosal is detectable only in trace amounts or no other vaccine for the

28 same purpose is commercially available in a form that does not contain thimerosal.
29 (2) The department may purchase and distribute a pediatric vaccine that contains
30 thimerosal if no other vaccine for the same purpose is commercially available in a form that
31 does not contain thimerosal.
