7 LONG TITLE
8 General Description:
9 This bill modifies the Motor Vehicle Act by amending provisions related to vehicle
10 identification number inspectors.
11 Highlighted Provisions:
12 This bill:
13 . provides that licensed new and used motor vehicle dealers and new and used
14 motorcycle, off-highway vehicle, and small trailer dealers are qualified vehicle
15 identification number inspectors; and
16 . makes technical changes.

25 Be it enacted by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
26 Section 1. Section 41-1a-802 is amended to read:
27 41-1a-802. Identification number inspectors -- Duties.

28 (1) The following are qualified identification number inspectors:
29 (a) the commission[,];
30 (b) designated officers and employees of the division[,];
31 (c) a person operating a safety inspection station under Title 53, Chapter 8, Part 2,
32 Motor Vehicle Safety Inspection Act[,];
33 (d) an official inspection station certified inspector[, and];
34 (e) a dealer licensed under Subsection 41-3-202 (1), (2), (3), or (4); and
35 (f) all peace officers of the state [are qualified identification number inspectors].
36 (2) The qualified identification number inspectors shall, upon the application for the
37 first registration in this state of any vehicle:
38 (a) inspect the identification number of the vehicle;
39 (b) make a record of the identification number inspection upon an application form
40 provided by the division; and
41 (c) verify the facts in the application.
