                  LONG TITLE
                  General Description:
                      This concurrent resolution of the Legislature and the Governor honors Delta Air Lines
                  for its economic impact on the state.
                  Highlighted Provisions:
                      This resolution:
                      .    honors Delta Air Lines for its commitment to Utah and its enormous impact on
                  economic development in the state; and
                      .    honors Delta Air Lines for helping to make sure that the first impressions of visitors
                  to Utah is positive.
                  Special Clauses:
                      None
                 
                  Be it resolved by the Legislature of the state of Utah, the Governor concurring therein:
                      WHEREAS, last year, Delta Air Lines celebrated its 75th year serving passengers;
                      WHEREAS, in 1926, Western Air Express, which became Western Air Lines, began
                  passenger operations at the Salt Lake Airport;
                      WHEREAS, in 1982, Western Air Lines made Salt Lake City an operational hub;
                      WHEREAS, in 1987, Western Air Lines merged with Delta Air Lines and the Salt Lake
                  City hub operations were significantly expanded;
                      WHEREAS, Delta Air Lines and its connection carriers, including Sky West, are
                  responsible for over 700 airplane arrivals and departures each day to bring over 13 million


                  passengers to and from Utah every year;
                      WHEREAS, Delta Air Lines recently expanded its Salt Lake City hub resulting in 750
                  additional jobs in Utah;
                      WHEREAS, the Salt Lake City Airport will gain 58 new flights each day and 13 new
                  destinations at Salt Lake International Airport as a result of Delta's realignment;
                      WHEREAS, Delta Air Lines was a sponsor of the 2002 Olympic Winter Games in Salt
                  Lake City and carried the Olympic torch from Athens, Greece, to Atlanta, Georgia, to begin its
                  relay into Salt Lake City;
                      WHEREAS, Delta Air Lines also bought the naming rights for a 20-year period to the
                  Delta Center in 1991 for $25 million, helping to finance the facility for Utah; and
                      WHEREAS, at a time when the state is considering ways to increase tourism, it is
                  appropriate to honor the airline that will bring most of the tourists to Utah:
                      NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of the state of Utah, the
                  Governor concurring therein, honor Delta Air Lines for its commitment to Utah and its enormous
                  impact on economic development in the state.
                      BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature and the Governor honor Delta Air
                  Lines for helping to make sure that the first impression that visitors to Utah have is a positive
                  one.
                      BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be presented to Gerald
                  Grinstein, Chief Executive Officer of Delta Air Lines.
