             7      LONG TITLE
             8      General Description:
             9          This bill modifies the Criminal Code by providing certain penalties for providing false
             10      information to state or local government agencies.
             11      Highlighted Provisions:
             12          This bill:
             13          .    provides that knowingly giving false information to a state or local government
             14      agency or personnel with the intent to imply that another person has committed an
             15      offense or to induce a change in a person's licensing or certification status is a class
             16      B misdemeanor.
             17      Monies Appropriated in this Bill:

             25      Be it enacted by the Legislature of the state of Utah:


             26          Section 1. Section 76-8-506 is amended to read:
             27           76-8-506. Providing false information to law enforcement officers, government
             28      agencies, or specified professionals.
             29          A person is guilty of a class B misdemeanor if he:
             30          (1) knowingly gives or causes to be given false information to any peace officer or any
             31      state or local government agency or personnel with a purpose of inducing the [officer] recipient
             32      of the information to believe that another has committed an offense; [or]
             33          (2) knowingly gives or causes to be given to any peace officer, any state or local
             34      government agency or personnel, or to any person licensed in this state to practice social work,
             35      psychology, or marriage and family therapy, information concerning the commission of an
             36      offense, knowing that the offense did not occur or knowing that he has no information relating
             37      to the offense or danger[.]; or
             38          (3) knowingly gives or causes to be given false information to any state or local
             39      government agency or personnel with a purpose of inducing a change in the person's licensing
             40      or certification status or the licensing or certification status of another.
