8 General Description:
9 This bill specifies the time at which a foreign judgment expires.
10 Highlighted Provisions:
11 This bill:
12 . provides that a foreign judgment expires eight years after the date of entry by the
13 court in the foreign jurisdiction unless the lien is renewed in Utah as required by
14 Utah law.

23 Be it enacted by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
24 Section 1. Section 78-22a-5 is amended to read:
25 78-22a-5. Lien.
26 (1) A foreign judgment entered in a district court under this chapter becomes a lien as
27 provided in Section 78-22-1 if:
28 (a) a stay of execution has not been granted;
29 (b) the requirements of this chapter are satisfied; and
30 (c) the judgment is recorded in the office of the county recorder where the property of
31 the judgment debtor is located, as provided in Section 78-22-1 .
32 (2) The lien becomes effective at the time and date of recording and expires eight years
33 after date of entry by the court in the foreign jurisdiction unless renewed in Utah as required by
34 Utah law.
