Committee Chair Thomas called the meeting to order at 9:04 a.m.
1. Approval of Minutes
MOTION: Sen. Arent moved to approve the minutes of February 14, 2006. The motion passed unanimously with Sen. Hale absent for the vote.
2. H.J.R. 15 Joint Resolution Raising Public Awareness of Vital Role of Paraeducators (Rep. R. Menlove)
Rep. Rhonda Menlove presented the resolution and proposed amendments.
MOTION: Sen. Arent moved to amend H.J.R. 15 with the following amendments:

and education community
, the Utah Parent Teacher
Association, the Utah State Board of Education,
The motion passed unanimously with Sen. Hale absent for the vote.
Marie Wise, Paraeducator, Davis School District; Pat Fender, American Federation of Teachers; Patti Harrington, State Superintendent of Education; and Steven Peterson, State Association of School Boards, spoke in support of the resolution.
MOTION: Sen. Arent moved to pass H.J.R. 15, Joint Resolution Raising Public Awareness of Paraeducators as amended out of committee with a favorable recommendation.
The motion passed unanimously.
MOTION: Sen. Arent moved to place H.J.R. 15 on the Consent Calendar.
The motion passed unanimously.
MOTION: Sen. Hale moved to adjourn.
Chair Thomas adjourned the meeting at 9:13 a.m.
