             9      LONG TITLE
             10      General Description:
             11          This bill modifies Title 64, Chapter 13, Department of Corrections - State Prison,
             12      regarding correctional facility planning.
             13      Highlighted Provisions:
             14          This bill:
             15          .    requires the Department of Corrections to:
             16              .    conduct a study regarding the issuance of requests for proposals for construction
             17      of a 500-bed facility; and
             18              .    provide a report on the study during the 2008 General Session of the
             19      Legislature.

             28      Be it enacted by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
             29          Section 1. Section 64-13-26.6 is enacted to read:
             30          64-13-26.6. Study regarding construction of 500-bed facility -- Report to
             31      Legislature.
             32          (1) On or before January 1, 2008, the department shall complete a study regarding the
             33      issuance of requests for proposals for the construction of a 500-bed facility that is to address
             34      inmate housing needs, including preventing the early release of inmates due to an inadequate
             35      number of beds.
             36          (2) The department shall report on the study under Subsection (1) to the legislative
             37      Executive Offices and Criminal Justice Appropriations Subcommittee during the 2008 General
             38      Session of the Legislature.
