Chair Dayton called the meeting to order at 8:47 a.m.
Chair Dayton asked the committee members and staff to introduce themselves.
Chair Dayton turned the chair to Sen. Stephenson who explained that a concurrent resolution requires approval of both the Senate and the House, as well as the Governor.
1. SCR 2 Resolution Promoting Legislators Back to School Program
Sen. Dayton introduced the resolution. Shelley Day, Coordinator, Legislators Back to School Program, distributed a handout showing the number of participating Legislators in the program. Vic Arnold, Utah Education Association, spoke in favor.
MOTION: Sen. Dayton moved to pass SCR 2, Resolution Promoting Legislators Back to School Program, out with a favorable recommendation. The motion passed unanimously.
Sen. Dayton resumed the chair.
2. SB 90 Higher Education Enhancements
Richard Kendell, Commissioner, Utah State Higher Education, distributed a handout explaining the bill and spoke in support.
Sen. Hickman presented the bill and proposed an amendment.
MOTION: Sen. Peterson moved to amend SB 90, Higher Education Enhancements, with the following amendment:
1. Lines 102 through 114
102 (1) to the University of Utah $1,000,000 as follows:
103 (a) $300,000 for digital media, including communications, film, digital design, and
104 computer animation;
