             7      LONG TITLE
             8      General Description:
             9          This bill modifies provisions of the voluntary extended-day kindergarten program.
             10      Highlighted Provisions:
             11          This bill:
             12          .    provides definitions;
             13          .    makes a part-day kindergarten program that has student enrollment below the
             14      average class size of all other kindergarten programs within a school district eligible
             15      to receive voluntary extended-day kindergarten program funding; and
             16          .    makes technical corrections.
             17      Monies Appropriated in this Bill:
             18          None
             19      Other Special Clauses:
             20          This bill takes effect on July 1, 2008.
             21      Utah Code Sections Affected:
             22      AMENDS:
             23          53A-1a-901, as enacted by Laws of Utah 2007, Chapter 386

             25      Be it enacted by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
             26          Section 1. Section 53A-1a-901 is amended to read:
             27           53A-1a-901. Definitions.


             28          As used in this part:
             29          (1) "Extended-day kindergarten" means a kindergarten program that provides:
             30          (a) at least the same number of instructional hours per school year as first grade, as
             31      established under State Board of Education rule; [or]
             32          (b) additional instruction hours that are outside the regular school year, including
             33      summer programs[.]; or
             34          (c) a school district part-day kindergarten program that has student enrollment below
             35      the average class size of all other kindergarten programs within the school district.
             36          (2) "Part-day kindergarten" means a kindergarten program that provides fewer
             37      instructional hours than first grade, as established under State Board of Education rule.
             38          Section 2. Effective date.
             39          This bill takes effect on July 1, 2008.
