             8      LONG TITLE
             9      General Description:
             10          This concurrent resolution of the Legislature and the Governor designates February 6,
             11      2008 as Ronald Reagan Day.
             12      Highlighted Provisions:
             13          This resolution:
             14          .    designates February 6, 2008 as Ronald Reagan Day in the state of Utah and
             15      encourages Utahns to participate in its observance.
             16      Special Clauses:
             17          None

             19      Be it resolved by the Legislature of the state of Utah, the Governor concurring therein:
             20          WHEREAS, Ronald Wilson Reagan, a man of humble background, worked throughout
             21      his life serving freedom and advancing the public good;
             22          WHEREAS, Ronald Reagan worked as an entertainer, union leader, corporate
             23      spokesman, Governor of California, and President of the United States;
             24          WHEREAS, Ronald Reagan served with honor and distinction for two terms as the
             25      40th president of the United States of America;
             26          WHEREAS, in 1981, when Ronald Reagan was inaugurated President, he inherited a
             27      disillusioned nation shackled by rampant inflation and high unemployment;


             28          WHEREAS, during Reagan's presidency he worked in a bipartisan manner to enact his
             29      bold agenda of restoring accountability and common sense to government which led to an
             30      unprecedented economic expansion and opportunities for millions of Americans;
             31          WHEREAS, President Reagan's commitment to an active social policy agenda for the
             32      nation's children helped lower crime and drug use in our neighborhoods;
             33          WHEREAS, President Reagan's commitment to our armed forces contributed to the
             34      restoration of pride in America, her values and those cherished by the free world, and prepared
             35      America's Armed Forces to meet 21st Century challenges;
             36          WHEREAS, in his second term election President Reagan earned the confidence of 3/5
             37      of the electorate and was victorious in 49 of the 50 states in the general election, a record
             38      unsurpassed in the history of American presidential elections;
             39          WHEREAS, President Reagan's vision of "peace through strength" led to the end of the
             40      Cold War and the ultimate demise of the Soviet Union, guaranteeing basic human rights for
             41      millions of people; and
             42          WHEREAS, February 6, 2008 will be the 97th anniversary of Ronald Reagan's birth,
             43      and the third since his passing:
             44          NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of the state of Utah, the
             45      Governor concurring therein, designate February 6, 2008 as Ronald Reagan Day in the state of
             46      Utah, and encourage Utahns to participate in its observance.
             47          BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be sent to the Ronald
             48      Reagan Legacy Project.
