Rep. Hunsaker opened the meeting at 8:03 a.m.

MOTION:    Rep. Froerer moved to approve the minutes of February 14, 2008. The motion passed unanimously, with Rep. Allen, Rep. Dunnigan, Rep. Gibson, Rep. Seelig, Rep. Shurtliff absent for the vote.

H.B. 437    Funeral Services Licensing Act Amendments (Rep. S. Urquhart)

Rep. Urquhart introduced and explained the bill to the Committee with the help of Sean Myers, National Funeral Directors Association, and Todd Boyer, President, Utah Funeral Director Association.

MOTION:    Rep. Dunnigan moved to recommend H.B. 437 favorably. The motion passed unanimously.

MOTION:    Rep. Urquhart moved to place H.B. 437 on the Consent Calendar. The motion passed unanimously.

S.B. 125    High School Voter Registration (Sen. K. VanTassell) (Rep. J. Mathis)

Sen. VanTassell introduced and explained the bill with the help of Steve Peterson, representing Utah School Board Association and Utah School Superintendent Association.


MOTION:    Rep. Dunnigan moved to recommend S.B. 125 favorably. The motion passed, with Rep. Chavez-Houck, and Rep. Seelig voting in opposition and Rep. Urquhart absent for the vote.

1st Sub. S.J.R. 7 Joint Rules Resolution - Authorizing Electronic Committee Meetings (Sen. L. Hillyard) (Rep. R. Barrus)

Sen. Hillyard introduced and explained the bill to the Committee.

MOTION:    Gibson moved to recommend 1st Sub. S.J.R. 7 favorably. The motion passed with Rep. Dunnigan voting in opposition and Rep. Urquhart absent for the vote.

Rep. Hunsaker relinquished the chair to Rep. Froerer.

S.B. 65    Soliciting Gang Members Prohibited (Sen. J. Greiner) (Rep. C. Oda)

Sen. Grenier introduced and explained the bill to the Committee.

MOTION    Rep. Shurtliff moved to pass S.B. 65 favorably. The vote was unanimous, with Rep. Urquhart and Rep. Hunsaker absent for the vote.

S.B. 165    Alcoholic Beverage Single Event Permits (Sen. S. McCoy) (Rep. G. Hughes)

Sen. McCoy introduced and explained the bill to the Committee with the help of John Freeman, Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control.

MOTION    Rep. Chavez-Houck moved to recomment S.B. 165 favorably. The motion passed unanimously, with Rep. Urquhart and Rep. Hunsaker absent for the vote.

S.B. 167    Alcoholic Beverages on Election Day (Sen. S. McCoy) (Rep. G. Hughes)

Sen. McCoy introduced and explained the bill to the Committee with the help of John Freeman, Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control.

MOTION:    Rep. Chavez-Houck moved to recommend S.B. 167 favorably. The motion passed with Rep. Webb voting in opposition, and Rep. Urquhart and Rep. Hunsaker absent for the vote.

MOTION:    Rep. Gibson moved to adjourn the meeting. Rep. Froerer called the meeting to a close at 9:05 a.m.
