9 General Description:
10 This joint resolution of the Legislature recognizes the Board of Directors of the Utah
11 Law Enforcement Memorial Foundation for their efforts on behalf of law enforcement
12 officers killed in the line of duty.
13 Highlighted Provisions:
14 This resolution:
15 . honors the members of the Board of Directors of the Utah Law Enforcement
16 Memorial Foundation and pays tribute to their efforts on behalf of the people of
17 Utah; and
18 . recognizes the Utah Law Enforcement Memorial Foundation as the guardians and
19 caretakers of the Utah Law Enforcement Memorial to ensure that it is preserved and
20 maintained as a place of remembrance.

24 Be it resolved by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
25 WHEREAS, the Utah Law Enforcement Memorial Foundation was established in 2006
26 to promote the creation of a permanent memorial on the grounds of the Utah State Capitol to
27 honor and remember law enforcement officers killed in defense of the lives, families,
28 communities, property, and rights of the citizens of the state of Utah and the United States of
29 America;
30 WHEREAS, the people of Utah lacked a fitting tribute to the many men and women
31 who willingly laid down their lives in defense of the citizens of Utah and its families,
32 communities, property, and rights;
33 WHEREAS, the Utah Law Enforcement Memorial Foundation remedied this by
34 locating a place for remembrance and honor of these law enforcement officers;
35 WHEREAS, the Utah Law Enforcement Memorial Foundation united peace officer and
36 public organizations, including churches, civic organizations, public service organizations,
37 private enterprises, government organizations, and the generous citizens of the state of Utah;
38 WHEREAS, the Utah Law Enforcement Memorial Foundation did, with the assistance
39 of this Legislature and under the guidance of the Capitol Preservation Board, create and
40 construct the Utah Law Enforcement Memorial on the grounds of the Utah State Capitol;
41 WHEREAS, the Utah Law Enforcement Memorial now stands on the grounds of the
42 Utah State Capitol to serve as a place of honor, meditation, healing, and memory for over 126
43 men and women who have died in the line of duty after swearing to defend the Constitutions
44 and people of Utah and the United States of America;
45 WHEREAS, the Utah Law Enforcement Memorial Foundation has served the citizens
46 of the state of Utah by ensuring that the memory and the stories of these brave men and women
47 of law enforcement shall never be forgotten, but that their sacrifices and their honor shall live
48 on in memory and in memorial on the grounds of the Utah State Capitol;
49 WHEREAS, the Utah Law Enforcement Memorial Foundation raised funds sufficient
50 to erect a fitting memorial; and
51 WHEREAS, the primary function of the Utah Law Enforcement Memorial Foundation
52 is to maintain and preserve the Utah Law Enforcement Memorial on the grounds of the Utah
53 State Capitol and provide an endowment of funds for its preservation in perpetuity:
54 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of the state of Utah
55 recognizes the labors of the members of the Board of Directors of the Utah Law Enforcement
56 Memorial Foundation and pays tribute to their unfailing efforts on behalf of the people of Utah.
57 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature recognizes the Utah Law
58 Enforcement Memorial Foundation as the guardians and caretakers of the Utah Law
59 Enforcement Memorial to ensure that it is forever preserved and maintained as a place of
60 remembrance for the benefit of the people of Utah.
61 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be sent to the Utah Law
62 Enforcement Memorial Foundation.
