18 General Description:
19 This concurrent resolution of the Legislature and the Governor designates October
20 2010, as Italian-American Heritage Month.
21 Highlighted Provisions:
22 This resolution:
23 . designates the month of October 2010, as Italian-American Heritage Month in the
24 state of Utah; and
25 . recognizes the many contributions made by Italian-Americans to the history and
26 development of the state of Utah.

30 Be it resolved by the Legislature of the state of Utah, the Governor concurring therein:
31 WHEREAS, Italian-Americans have played an integral role in the history of Utah, in

32 the fabric of modern society, and in today's celebrated and diverse cultural community;
33 WHEREAS, Italian-Americans are the sixth largest ethnic group in America;
34 WHEREAS, the richness of Utah's Italian-American heritage is evidenced by the
35 release of the documentary, "Our Story: Italian-Americans in Utah," which details the
36 immigration of Italians to Utah, dating back to pioneer times, and the role they played in the
37 state's development;
38 WHEREAS, Italian-American heritage and the contributions made by individual
39 Italian-Americans in Utah merit commendation, reflection, and celebration;
40 WHEREAS, during his administration, President Jimmy Carter annually proclaimed
41 the month of October as Italian-American Heritage Month in recognition of the contributions
42 of Italian-Americans to the nation's development and urged each state to issue a similar
43 proclamation;
44 WHEREAS, it is appropriate that the state of Utah join in recognizing the
45 contributions of Italian-Americans to the history and development of the state and honoring
46 their accomplishments; and
47 WHEREAS, Columbus Day, a national holiday, also falls in the month of October:
48 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of the state of Utah, the
49 Governor concurring therein, designate the month of October 2010, as Italian-American
50 Heritage Month in the state of Utah.
51 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature and the Governor recognize the
52 many contributions made by Italian-Americans to the history and development of the state of
53 Utah.
54 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be sent to the
55 Italian-American Lodge of Helper, Utah, the Italian-American Civic League of Salt Lake City,
56 Utah, the Trentinis - Italians of Utah, the Italian Consul of Utah, and Joanne Milner.
