8 LONG TITLE
9 General Description:
10 This concurrent resolution of the Legislature and the Governor designates October,
11 2010, as Italian-American Heritage Month.
12 Highlighted Provisions:
13 This resolution:
14 . designates the month of October, 2010, as Italian-American Heritage Month in the
15 state of Utah; and
16 . recognizes the many contributions made by Italian-Americans to the history and
17 development of the state of Utah.

21 Be it resolved by the Legislature of the state of Utah, the Governor concurring therein:
22 WHEREAS, Italian-Americans have played an integral role in the history of Utah, in
23 the fabric of modern society, and in today's celebrated and diverse cultural community;
24 WHEREAS, Italian-Americans are the sixth largest ethnic group in America;
25 WHEREAS, the richness of Utah's Italian-American heritage is evidenced by the
26 release of the documentary, "Our Story: Italian-Americans in Utah," which details the
27 immigration of Italians to Utah, dating back to pioneer times, and the role they played in the

28 state's development;
29 WHEREAS, Italian-American heritage and the contributions made by individual
30 Italian-Americans in Utah merit commendation, reflection, and celebration;
31 WHEREAS, during his administration, President Jimmy Carter annually proclaimed the
32 month of October as Italian-American Heritage Month in recognition of the contributions of
33 Italian-Americans to the nation's development and urged each state to issue a similar
34 proclamation;
35 WHEREAS, it is appropriate that the state of Utah join in recognizing the contributions
36 of Italian-Americans to the history and development of the state and honoring their
37 accomplishments; and
38 WHEREAS, Columbus Day, a national holiday, also falls in the month of October:
39 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of the state of Utah, the
40 Governor concurring therein, designate the month of October, 2010, as Italian-American
41 Heritage Month in the state of Utah.
42 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature and the Governor recognize the
43 many contributions made by Italian-Americans to the history and development of the state of
44 Utah.
45 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be sent to the
46 Italian-American Lodge of Helper, Utah, and the Italian-American Civic League of Salt Lake
47 City, Utah.
