             8      LONG TITLE
             9      General Description:
             10          This concurrent resolution of the Legislature and the Governor expresses support for
             11      the creation of a Utah Freedom Memorial Park and recommends a funding study.
             12      Highlighted Provisions:
             13          This resolution:
             14          .    expresses support for the creation of a Utah Freedom Memorial Park to honor all of
             15      Utah's military, from statehood through the current war on terrorism, and to educate
             16      both children and adults on the cost of freedom and the opportunities of citizenship;
             17      and
             18          .    recommends that a study be conducted during the 2010 Legislative Interim to
             19      review the scope of the project and ways that state and local governments may assist
             20      in the planning, funding, and furthering of the project.
             21      Special Clauses:
             22          None
             23     
             24      Be it resolved by the Legislature of the state of Utah, the Governor concurring therein:
             25          WHEREAS, the establishment of a Utah Freedom Memorial Park will be a statewide
             26      memorial that honors all of Utah's military, from statehood through the current war on
             27      terrorism;


             28          WHEREAS, the primary focus of the Utah Freedom Memorial Park will be to educate
             29      children on the cost of freedom and the opportunities of citizenship;
             30          WHEREAS, school children throughout the state will visit the memorial each year on
             31      field trips, where they will experience a complete educational program hosted at the facility;
             32          WHEREAS, the Utah Freedom Memorial Park is projected to cost approximately
             33      $1,500,000;
             34          WHEREAS, much of the cost will be raised in the private sector by individuals and by
             35      supportive non-profit organizations;
             36          WHEREAS, to date, approximately $300,000 in cash and in-kind donations has been
             37      raised;
             38          WHEREAS, the Utah Freedom Memorial Park would benefit from a legislative review
             39      of its scope and ways to assist in the planning, funding, and furthering of the project; and
             40          WHEREAS, details of the Utah Freedom Memorial Park Project can be seen on
             41      www.UtahFreedomMemorial.org:
             42          NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of the state of Utah, the
             43      Governor concurring therein, express support for the creation of a Utah Freedom Memorial
             44      Park to honor all of Utah's military, from statehood through the current war on terrorism, and to
             45      educate both children and adults on the cost of freedom and the opportunities of citizenship.
             46          BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature of the state of Utah study and
             47      review the project's scope and ways for state and local governments to assist in planning,
             48      funding, and furthering the project.
             49          BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be sent to the Utah
             50      Freedom Memorial Park Project and the chairs of the Executive Appropriations Committee.
