8 General Description:
9 This bill requires the University of Utah to report certain financial information related
10 to its public television station.
11 Highlighted Provisions:
12 This bill:
13 . requires the University of Utah to report to an appropriations subcommittee of the
14 Legislature on the revenue and expenditures of KUED-TV.

23 Be it enacted by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
24 Section 1. Section 53B-17-103 is amended to read:
25 53B-17-103. General powers of University of Utah related to public broadcasting
26 and telecommunication for education.
27 (1) Subject to applicable rules of the Federal Communications Commission and the

28 State Board of Regents, the University of Utah shall:
29 (a) serve as the state's provider of public television services, with programming from
30 the Public Broadcasting Service and other syndicated and locally produced programs;
31 (b) serve as the state's primary provider of public radio services, with programming
32 from National Public Radio and other syndicated and locally produced programs; and
33 (c) subject to Section 53B-7-103 , accept and use gifts and apply for and receive funds
34 from federal and other sources to carry out the purposes of this part.
35 (2) Subject to future budget constraints, the Legislature shall provide an annual
36 appropriation to operate KUED - TV.
37 (3) The University of Utah shall report annually to the Legislature's Higher Education
38 Appropriations Subcommittee on:
39 (a) the total revenue for KUED-TV received from:
40 (i) state appropriation;
41 (ii) federal sources;
42 (iii) private donations; and
43 (iv) any other miscellaneous sources; and
44 (b) the amount budgeted for personnel services and operating expenses of KUED-TV
45 from each funding source listed in Subsection (3)(a).
46 [(3)] (4) This section neither regulates nor restricts a privately owned company in the
47 distribution or dissemination of educational programs.
