             9      General Description:
             10          This concurrent resolution of the Legislature and the Governor honors the service and
             11      contributions of the family of James LeVoy and Beverley Taylor Sorenson, including
             12      the establishment of the Sorenson Legacy Foundation, to the people of Utah.
             13      Highlighted Provisions:
             14          This resolution:
             15          .    recognizes and honors the extraordinary contributions of James LeVoy and
             16      Beverley Taylor Sorenson and their children Carol Smith, Shauna Johnson, James
             17      Lee Sorenson, Ann Crocker, Joan Fenton, Joseph Sorenson, Gail Williamsen,
             18      Christine Harris, and their spouses for their extreme generosity and the positive
             19      impact of their numerous contributions to the state on behalf of the people of Utah.
             20      Special Clauses:
             21          None
             22     
             23      Be it resolved by the Legislature of the state of Utah, the Governor concurring therein:
             24          WHEREAS, the family of James LeVoy and Beverley Taylor Sorenson has engaged in
             25      a wide range of charitable endeavors that have brought inestimable benefits to the people of
             26      Utah;
             27          WHEREAS, the Sorenson family established the Sorenson Legacy Foundation with the
             28      express purpose of improving "the lives of others and the world in which we live" through
             29      "support for community development, education, health care, scientific and artistic pursuits;"


             30          WHEREAS, the Sorenson Legacy Foundation has invested tens of millions of dollars in
             31      worthy activities and organizations that serve the needs of people across and beyond the
             32      borders of our state;
             33          WHEREAS, the work of the Foundation has resulted in the creation of educational
             34      innovation that improves the lives and attainments of elementary school children, secondary
             35      and college students throughout Utah, and has transformed the education achievement
             36      possibilities open to deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals;
             37          WHEREAS, the work of the Foundation has also enabled the renovation or expansion
             38      of places of worship for people of many faiths, has fostered the development of high-quality
             39      community centers dedicated to serving the needs of disadvantaged individuals and families,
             40      and has provided easier access to greatly improved health care for the citizens of Utah; and
             41          WHEREAS, the members of the Sorenson family and their spouses have generously
             42      dedicated countless additional resources and time beyond their Foundation efforts for the
             43      benefit of underprivileged individuals and families throughout the world:
             44          NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of the state of Utah, the
             45      Governor concurring therein, honor James LeVoy and Beverley Taylor Sorenson and their
             46      children, Carol Smith, Shauna Johnson, James Lee Sorenson, Ann Crocker, Joan Fenton,
             47      Joseph Sorenson, Gail Williamsen, Christine Harris, and their spouses for their extraordinary
             48      commitment to improving the quality of life and opportunity for the residents of Utah and
             49      citizens of the world.
             50          BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature and the Governor express their
             51      deep and sincere gratitude to the Sorenson Legacy Foundation, and especially to the members
             52      of the Sorenson family, for their dedicated service to Utah and to the world.
             53          BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be sent to the family of
             54      James LeVoy and Beverley Taylor Sorenson and to the Sorenson Legacy Foundation.
