             8      General Description:
             9          This bill exempts the state from the observance of daylight saving time.
             10      Highlighted Provisions:
             11          This bill:
             12          .    defines terms;
             13          .    exempts the state from the federal law requiring observance of daylight saving time;
             14      and
             15          .    mandates the state observe mountain standard time throughout the year.
             16      Money Appropriated in this Bill:
             17          None
             18      Other Special Clauses:
             19          This bill takes effect on January 1, 2013.

             24      Be it enacted by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
             25          Section 1. Section 63G-1-701 is enacted to read:
             26     
Part 7. Time Standardization

             27          63G-1-701. Exemption from daylight saving time -- Time zone observance.


             28          (1) As used in this section:
             29          (a) "Daylight saving time" means the period during a year when the observed time of
             30      day is advanced one hour according to the provisions of 15 U.S.C. Sec. 260a.
             31          (b) "Mountain standard time" means coordinated universal time retarded by seven
             32      hours, which is the standard time designated by 15 U.S.C. Sec. 261 as the time zone in which
             33      the state is situated.
             34          (2) (a) The state is exempt from the provisions of 15 U.S.C. Sec. 260a, which:
             35          (i) establish the observance of daylight saving time; and
             36          (ii) authorize a state to exempt itself from the requirement to observe daylight saving
             37      time.
             38          (b) The entire state, and all of its political subdivisions, shall observe mountain
             39      standard time at all times during a year.
             40          Section 2. Effective date.
             41          This bill takes effect on January 1, 2013.
