             7      LONG TITLE
             8      General Description:
             9          This bill modifies the Traffic Code by amending provisions relating to authorized
             10      emergency vehicles.
             11      Highlighted Provisions:
             12          This bill:
             13          .    provides that an operator of a vehicle may not follow closer than 500 feet any
             14      authorized emergency vehicle traveling in response to an emergency; and
             15          .    makes technical changes.
             16      Money Appropriated in this Bill:

             20      Utah Code Sections Affected:
             21      AMENDS:
             22          41-6a-1710, as renumbered and amended by Laws of Utah 2005, Chapter 2

             24      Be it enacted by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
             25          Section 1. Section 41-6a-1710 is amended to read:
             26           41-6a-1710. Following near an authorized emergency vehicle or parking near fire
             27      apparatus prohibited.
             28          Except for a person operating an authorized emergency vehicle, the operator of a
             29      vehicle may not:


             30          (1) follow closer than 500 feet any [fire apparatus] authorized emergency vehicle
             31      traveling in response to [a fire alarm] an emergency; or
             32          (2) stop the vehicle within 500 feet of a fire apparatus which has stopped in answer to a
             33      fire alarm.
