7 LONG TITLE
8 General Description:
9 This bill removes language from the divorce statute favoring one spouse over the other
10 and provides for equal footing in property matters.
11 Highlighted Provisions:
12 This bill:
13 . changes wife to spouse to put both spouses on equal footing to enter into contracts;
14 and
15 . repeals language providing favorable treatment for one spouse over another.

27 Be it enacted by the Legislature of the state of Utah:

28 Section 1. Section 30-2-2 is amended to read:
29 30-2-2. Spouse's right to contract, sue, and be sued.
30 Contracts may be made by [a wife] either spouse, and liabilities incurred and enforced
31 by or against [her] the contracting spouse, to the same extent and in the same manner as if [she
32 were] the contracting spouse was unmarried.
33 Section 2. Repealer.
34 This bill repeals:
35 Section 30-2-4, Wife's right to wages -- Actions for personal injury.
36 Section 30-2-7, Husband's liability for wife's torts.
