             8      General Description:
             9          This bill changes the penalty for the issuance of a license for a prohibited marriage.
             10      Highlighted Provisions:
             11          This bill:
             12          .    makes it a class A misdemeanor for a county clerk to knowingly issue a license for a
             13      prohibited marriage.

             22      Be it enacted by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
             23          Section 1. Section 30-1-16 is amended to read:
             24           30-1-16. Misconduct of county clerk -- Penalty.
             25          Every clerk or deputy clerk who knowingly issues a license for any prohibited marriage
             26      [shall be punished by confinement in the state prison for a term not exceeding two years, or by
             27      fine in any sum not exceeding $1,000, or by both such fine and imprisonment, and upon
             28      conviction shall be removed from his office by the judgment of the court before which his
             29      conviction is had; and if he willfully issues a license contrary to his duty as herein prescribed,


             30      he shall be fined not exceeding $1,000] is guilty of a class A misdemeanor.
