             9      LONG TITLE
             10      General Description:
             11          This concurrent resolution of the Legislature and the Governor honors Utah citizens
             12      who are serving or who have served the state of Utah in the United States Armed
             13      Forces and recognizes communities participating in the Community Covenant program.
             14      Highlighted Provisions:
             15          This resolution:
             16          .    honors the thousands of Utah citizens who serve or who have served the state of
             17      Utah and the United States of America;
             18          .    recognizes Utah's communities and other organizations that participate in the
             19      Community Covenant program; and
             20          .    encourages the citizens of the state to join in honoring the servicemembers,
             21      veterans, and their families who reside in the state of Utah.
             22      Special Clauses:
             23          None
             24     
             25      Be it resolved by the Legislature of the state of Utah, the Governor concurring therein:
             26          WHEREAS, the Community Covenant program is designed to foster and sustain
             27      effective state and community partnerships with the United States Army to improve the quality
             28      of life for soldiers and their families, both at their current duty stations and as they transfer to


             29      other states;
             30          WHEREAS, the Community Covenant program is a formal commitment of support by
             31      state and local communities to soldiers and their families;
             32          WHEREAS, while Community Covenant is a United States Army program, it extends
             33      to the other military services as well, recognizing that many community efforts support all
             34      servicemembers, and their families, regardless of the uniform they wear;
             35          WHEREAS, the Legislature of the state of Utah recognizes that thousands of Utah
             36      citizens serve or have served the state when duty has called;
             37          WHEREAS, whether serving at home or abroad, reserve component or active duty,
             38      these servicemembers protect our homeland, respond to natural disasters, assist in humanitarian
             39      emergencies, and protect against threats to the state and the nation;
             40          WHEREAS, Utah's armed forces servicemembers often leave their homes and families
             41      as they deploy to areas far and near;
             42          WHEREAS, Utah's communities, including civic and business leaders, employers,
             43      educators, law enforcement personnel, and clergy members provide vital support for
             44      servicemembers and their families at all stages of the deployment cycle, as well as to veterans
             45      who have previously served; and
             46          WHEREAS, the Legislature recognizes all of Utah's communities and other
             47      organizations that participate in the Community Covenant program:
             48          NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of the state of Utah, the
             49      Governor concurring therein, honors the thousands of Utah citizens who serve or who have
             50      served the state of Utah and the United States of America.
             51          BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature and the Governor recognize Utah's
             52      communities and other organizations that participate in the Community Covenant program and
             53      encourage the citizens of the state to join in honoring the servicemembers, veterans, and their
             54      families who reside in the state of Utah.
             55          BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be sent to the Utah League
             56      of Cities and Towns, the Utah Association of Counties, and the United States Army's


             57      Community Covenant program.
