9 General Description:
10 This concurrent resolution of the Legislature and the Governor honors Utah citizens
11 who are serving or who have served the state of Utah in the United States Armed
12 Forces and recognizes communities participating in the Community Covenant program.
13 Highlighted Provisions:
14 This resolution:
15 . honors the thousands of Utah citizens who serve or who have served the state of
16 Utah and the United States of America;
17 . recognizes Utah's communities and other organizations that participate in the
18 Community Covenant program; and
19 . encourages the citizens of the state to join in honoring the service members,
20 veterans, and their families who reside in the state of Utah.

24 Be it resolved by the Legislature of the state of Utah, the Governor concurring therein:
25 WHEREAS, the Community Covenant program is designed to foster and sustain
26 effective state and community partnerships with the United States Army to improve the quality
27 of life for soldiers and their families, both at their current duty stations and as they transfer to
28 other states;
29 WHEREAS, the Community Covenant program is a formal commitment of support by
30 state and local communities to soldiers and their families;
31 WHEREAS, while Community Covenant is a United States Army program, it extends
32 to the other military services as well, recognizing that many community efforts support all
33 service members, and their families, regardless of the uniform they wear;
34 WHEREAS, the Legislature of the state of Utah recognizes that thousands of Utah
35 citizens serve or have served the state when duty has called;
36 WHEREAS, whether serving at home or abroad, reserve component or active duty,
37 these servicemembers protect our homeland, respond to natural disasters, assist in humanitarian
38 emergencies, and protect against threats to the state and the nation;
39 WHEREAS, Utah's armed forces servicemembers often leave their homes and families
40 as they deploy to areas far and near;
41 WHEREAS, Utah's communities, including civic and business leaders, employers,
42 educators, law enforcement personnel, and clergy members provide vital support for
43 servicemembers and their families at all stages of the deployment cycle, as well as to veterans
44 who have previously served; and
45 WHEREAS, the Legislature recognizes all of Utah's communities and other
46 organizations that participate in the Community Covenant program:
47 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of the state of Utah, the
48 Governor concurring therein, honors the thousands of Utah citizens who serve or who have
49 served the state of Utah and the United States of America.
50 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature and the Governor recognize Utah's
51 communities and other organizations that participate in the Community Covenant program and
52 encourage the citizens of the state to join in honoring the servicemembers, veterans, and their
53 families who reside in the state of Utah.
54 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be sent to the Utah League
55 of Cities and Towns, the Utah Association of Counties, and the United States Army's
56 Community Covenant program.
