             7      LONG TITLE
             8      General Description:
             9          This bill modifies the Volunteer Government Workers Act regarding volunteer services
             10      for emergency law enforcement events.
             11      Highlighted Provisions:
             12          This bill:
             13          .    authorizes the county sheriff to approve a volunteer to serve in an emergency law
             14      enforcement event.
             15      Money Appropriated in this Bill:
             16          None
             17      Other Special Clauses:
             18          None
             19      Utah Code Sections Affected:
             20      AMENDS:
             21           67-20-4 , as enacted by Laws of Utah 1983, Chapter 174

             23      Be it enacted by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
             24          Section 1. Section 67-20-4 is amended to read:
             25           67-20-4. Approval of volunteer.
             26          [A] (1) Except as approval is provided under Subsection (2), a volunteer may not
             27      donate any service to an agency unless the volunteer's services are approved by:


             28          (a) the chief executive of that agency or [his] the authorized representative[,]; and [by]
             29          (b) the office of personnel having jurisdiction over that agency.
             30          (2) When the county sheriff determines that H. [ an ] a search and rescue .H emergency
             30a      situation exists that requires
             31      law enforcement action, the county sheriff may approve a volunteer who offers to donate a
             32      service for any law enforcement related activity conducted in response to the emergency
             33      situation.
