             9      General Description:
             10          This bill amends the Utah Agricultural Code.
             11      Highlighted Provisions:
             12          This bill:
             13          .    provides for the appointment of the state veterinarian by the Commissioner of the
             14      Department of Agriculture and Food; and
             15          .    establishes the state veterinarian's responsibilities.

             25      Be it enacted by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
             26          Section 1. Section 4-2-401 is enacted to read:
             27     
Part 4. State Veterinarian

             28          4-2-401. Appointment.


             29          The state veterinarian shall be appointed by the commissioner.
             30          Section 2. Section 4-2-402 is enacted to read:
             31          4-2-402. State veterinarian responsibilities.
             32          (1) The state veterinarian shall:
             33          (a) direct the department's responsibilities for:
             34          (i) the promotion of animal health;
             35          (ii) the diagnosis, surveillance, and prevention of animal disease;
             36          (iii) the inspection of meat and poultry; and
             37          (iv) livestock brand registration and inspection; and
             38          (b) perform other official duties assigned by the commissioner.
             39          (2) The state veterinarian may not receive compensation for services provided while
             40      engaging in the private practice of veterinary medicine.
             41          (3) The state veterinarian shall be a veterinarian licensed under Title 58, Chapter 28,
             42      Veterinary Practice Act.
