             9      General Description:
             10          This bill modifies provisions for a county sheriff regarding health care of jail detainees.
             11      Highlighted Provisions:
             12          This bill:
             13          .    allows a health care provider to issue a statement as to whether a detainee is
             14      medically cleared for incarceration in certain circumstances.

             23      Be it enacted by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
             24          Section 1. Section 17-22-8.1 is enacted to read:
             25          17-22-8.1. Inmate medical clearance.
             26          (1) A health care provider, as defined in Section 78B-3-403 , who provides health care
             27      to a detainee before the detainee is booked into a county jail by a competent authority, is


             28      authorized to disclose to the competent authority whether a detainee is medically cleared for
             29      incarceration.
             30          (2) The disclosure under Subsection (1) shall be in writing if requested by the
             31      competent authority.
