Chair Reid called the meeting to order at 4:05 pm.

S.B. 258          Rename Utah State University - College of Eastern Utah (Sen. D. Hinkins)

Sen. Hinkins introduced and explained the bill.

Spoke in favor of the bill:      Dr. Joe Peterson, Chancellor, Utah State University - College of                                                             Eastern Utah

MOTION:     Sen. Jones moved to pass S.B. 258 out favorably. The motion passed unanimously, with Sen. Stevenson and Sen. Stephenson absent for the vote.

MOTION:     Sen. Jones moved to place S.B. 258 on the Consent Calendar. The motion passed                         unanimously, with Sen. Stevenson and Sen. Stephenson absent for the vote.

S.B. 260          Reading Assessment Amendments (Sen. S. Urquhart)

Sen. Urquhart introduced and explained the bill.

MOTION:     Sen. Urquhart moved to replace S.B. 260 with 1st Sub. S.B. 260. The motion                         passed unanimously, with Sen. Stevenson and Sen. Stephenson absent for the                         vote.

Spoke to the bill:        Dr. Martell Menlove, State Superintendent of Public Instruction

Spoke in opposition to the bill:          Ms. Patty Willis, Literacy Coordinator, Cache County                                                                         School District

                                                            Ms. Robin Clement, Principal, Lewiston Elementary                                                                         School, Cache County School District

MOTION:     Sen. Urquhart moved to pass 1st Sub. S.B. 260 out favorably. The motion passed with Sen. Jones voting in opposition and Sen. Stevenson absent for the vote.

S.B. 82            Student Achievement Backpack (Sen. J. Stevenson)

Sen. Stevenson introduced and explained the bill.

MOTION:     Sen. Stevenson moved to replace S.B. 82 with 1st Sub. S.B. 82. The motion                         passed unanimously, with Sen. Urquhart absent for the vote.

S.B. 257          Personalized Educator Evaluation Technology (Sen. J. S. Adams)

Sen. Adams introduced and explained the bill.

Spoke to the bill:        Dr. Sydnee Dickson, Teaching and Learning Director, Utah State Office of                                                 Education

MOTION:     Sen. Madsen moved to pass S.B. 257 out favorably. The motion passed with Sen. Jones voting in opposition and Sen. Stevenson absent for the vote.

H.B. 201         State Board of Education Leadership Amendments (Rep. S. Eliason) (Sen. A. Osmond)

Rep. Eliason introduced and explained the bill.

Spoke in favor of the bill:      Ms. Debra Roberts, Chair, State Board of Education

MOTION:     Sen. Osmond moved to pass H.B. 201 out favorably. The motion passed unanimously with Sen. Stevenson absent for the vote.

MOTION:     Sen. Osmond moved to place H.B. 201 on the Consent Calendar. The motion                        passed unanimously, with Sen. Stevenson absent for the vote.

MOTION:     Sen. Osmond moved to adjourn. The motion passed unanimously, with Sen. Stevenson absent for the vote.
