This bill appropriates $1,615,753,686 for the Minimum School Program of which $1,344,401,192 comes from the Uniform School Fund and an estimated $271,352,494 from local property tax collections. The bill also appropriates funds for the School Building Programs consisting of $26,358,000 from Uniform School Funds. The bill contains an increase in the value of the Weighted Pupil Unit from $1,739 to $1,791 or a 3 percent increase. The increases for the Minimum School Program for Fiscal Year 1998 over the current 1997 Fiscal Year estimated base appropriations are $61,358,690 in Uniform School Funds and $19,093,595 in Local Funds for a total increase of $80,4522850. The Uniform School Fund increase represents an increase of 4.8 percent over Fiscal Year 1997 and the Local Funding is a 7.6 percent increase for a total program increase of 5.2 percent. The appropriations provide increased funding for new student growth, inflationary increases, Youth In Custody, Pupil Transportation, At Risk Programs, Pre-School special education, Concurrent Enrollment, Comprehensive Guidance, Educational Technology Initiative, Alternative Language Services, High Impact Schools, Applied Technology Education, Extended Year programs, Voted and Board Leeway programs, and a new program of School Nurses.. The basic tax rate for local district participation in the State Supported Minimum School program has been adjusted to .002014.
