This bill would require owners of unpatented mining claims located on trust lands to file a notice of the claim with the School and Institutional Trust Lands Administration (SITLA). The bill allows a filing fee to be charged by SITLA to offset costs to the State. It is estimated that ten such filings will be recorded annually. The bill also encourages county officials to apprehend trespassers on trust lands by offering a portion of the damages collected from the trespassers to the arresting county. It is estimated that $500 annually will be collected from these trespassers. Those monies will be paid to the county for their apprehension work. This bill also changes the Land Grant Management Fund from an expendable trust fund to an enterprise trust fund. The cost of this change can be handled within existing budgets.
