This bill appropriates $165,961 from the General Fund to the Administrative Office of the Courts for FY 1998 for a settlement and mediation program in the Court of Appeals. A new FTE position, an exempt employee of the courts called an Executive Director, for this program will be created. Other positions (FTEs) are also called for but not defined. Settlement and/or mediation prior to hearing by the Court of Appeals will reduce delays in the court calendars and, thereby, represent a savings to those awaiting hearings.
