The additional trials and sentencing which will result from upgrading the offense from a class A misdemeanor to a 3rd degree felony are estimated to cost the Courts $8,800. Additional incarceration in prison for approximately 7 additional offenders each year and the required 90 days in jail and probation for an estimated additional 2 offenders would cost the Department of Corrections $149,400 in the first year and $289,400 the second.
