This bill will generate approximately $63,000 annually from new registration fees, deposited to the General Fund. In addition, collections from applicants for the criminal background check will generate $86,400 in FY 2001 and $22,400 in FY 2002, which is passed on to the Department of Public Safety for the costs of the checks. The bill changes the emphasis from on-site inspections to the registrants' reporting of compliance. It is estimated that the net switch in personnel and associated implementation costs will require an appropriation of $26,500 in FY 2001, and will result in a savings of $3,000 therafter.
