The purpose of the Cooperative Studies program is to perform studies to better define the water resources of the state considering both water quality and quantity. Water measurements are taken to determine stream flow and reservoir levels. They are used to distribute water and assess the availability of water in application processing. Also, in conjunction with the United States Geological Survey (USGS), groundwater data is gathered and technical information is published. There are matching funds from the USGS for this program. This data and information is used extensively in the evaluation of whether a water right application should be granted.
Pass-through expenditures go to the U.S. Geological Survey, Utah Geological Survey and universities.
COBI contains unaudited data as presented to the Legislature by state agencies at the time of publication. For audited financial data see the State of Utah's Comprehensive Annual Financial Reports.
