Today, we celebrate all of the rich heritage our state has to offer on this Pioneer Day.
While Pioneer Day has traditionally been a day to celebrate when Mormon Pioneers settled in the Salt Lake Valley, this beautiful place has been home to Native Americans for thousands of years before our Mormon ancestors arrived.
Utah has a long history of immigration and pioneering spirit -- from the Chinese Americans who completed the first transcontinental railroad right here in Utah, to the miners who came here from twenty-seven different countries and our burgeoning tech sector attracting people nationally and internationally to Silicon Slopes.
The development of our state both economically and socially has and will always be dependent on embracing diversity as well as our commitment to creating a welcoming place for everyone who calls this great place home. That is why I’m running for Congress and the values I will protect when representing you.
I hope that you and your family have a safe and wonderful Pioneer Day. Please join me on this holiday by celebrating the many groups of people and cultures that make up our beautiful state. |
