To Whom It May Concern,
Thank you first of all for having HB0324 & HB0207 come before the legislature. I have been, for the last eight years, trying to get my voice heard on this subject.
You have hundreds of Foot Zoners in the state of Utah who have been practicing (with knowledge I might add) and charging money without license.
I for one have gone to the trouble and expense to get my massage therapy license to be legal and be above board on this practice of Foot Zoning. I have spread the word to colleges to also do the same. I am afraid it fell on deaf ears.
While I feel that a massage license has no real benefit to the practice of Foot Zone as far as the manipulations are concerned , there comes with that schooling a knowledge of the body, the workings of the systems and the energy systems that has proved beneficial. Foot Zone "classes" do go through a basic understanding of anatomy, but leaves the student a bit foggy at best. We are as Foot Zoners working on the reflex points in the feet and ankle to encourage through the body's electrical system, some sort of balance and therapeutic relief in the body.
I for one, believe that there needs be some kind of rules and regulations put in place, by the state to protect the client.
I am including such a proposal with the document attached.
When we just allow this kind of "service" to go on, you have all kinds of variables to consider. I think the general public should be able to go to a place that is clean and sanitary and professional.
As it stands, most Foot Zoners are doing this practice in their homes, front rooms, family rooms, etc, with children running in and out etc. There is for the most part, no regard for sanitation, the spreading/knowledge of foot diseases and the like.
Another concern would be the practice of "prescribing" and "diagnosing". I have heard, as I'm sure you have of the nightmares that are happening with this. There is in no way, shape, or form allowances to be had here. I have had people come to me and say things like, 'The last zoner I had, told me my Uterus was bad', or "Last time I got a zone she/he told me to ____________' and the list goes on.
While some teachers may touch on this subject of not prescribing or diagnosing, it has failed to go out with the masses.
If you would like to visit with me, have me come down, do a Foot Zone on any of you so you are familiar with the practice, I am more than happy to accommodate.
I am grateful for your time and attention to this matter. I feel like Foot Zone therapy should not just be given "free reign" to go out and do what has been going on. There should be something in place for public safety.
