Dear Senator:

I love Dixie State University!  I graduated from DSU (Dixie College at the time) as did my mother, all four of my siblings, all five of my children, and many others in my extended family.  I served as a studentbody officer the same year my twin brother served as studentbody president.  I had the privilege of serving on the Dixie board of trustees in the late 1990's and as the chair of the board of trustees for a few years at the end of the 1990's. Born and raised in Utah's Dixie, you could certainly say that I am a "Dixie Boy" in every respect.  My wife's name is Dixie! So the name change is important to me and I take it seriously.

So what about changing the name of Dixie State University?  This is a question with multiple answers and the source of many different opinions. Mine is that we need to do what is best for EVERYONE concerned.  This includes those of us who are alumni, those who have and are faculty and staff at the university, and, most important of all, those who are attending and WILL attend Dixie in the future.  From the survey completed by the  Cicero Group it would appear that changing the name is in the best interest of EVERYONE. I certainly don't want to see the name changed as Dixie is such a big part of our heritage and history in Washington County.  But we can live with a name change if it is the right thing to do.  I believe it is the right thing to do.

This is not an easy legislative matter and I respect you as a senator and the importance of making the right decision. I support the need to change the name of Dixie State University.  Heaven help those who must determine what the new name will be!
