Body:
As a talk show host on KSRR Radio, in behalf of my listeners, we strongly urge you to pass HB 342 by Rep. Dana Layton.  There is so much deceit in Government today, and we DO NOT  want our children under the power
of the Federal Government.  Each State should be allowed to create its own curriculum for our children.

This Common Core bill is a FRAUD - all dressed up to look or sound good, but we have to look beyond what is obvious, and seek out the truth.   There always has to be "some good" in a bill or obviously it would never get
past first base; but the bad is "really" bad.  We would be turning over the education of our children
to a run-away Federal Government that never stops taking individual freedoms from the people.  Right
now there is more emphasis on Socialism and Marcism than on a Republic.    As we understand it, Common Core isn’t even a complete set of math standards, it’s not college or career ready, and the ELA standards place undue emphasis on informational texts which is not helpful for children’s love of learning.   Once the Federal Government is in charge of our education in our schools, there is no wiggle room for parents or for teachers - they can foist
upon us any textbooks they want, whether there are inaccurate facts in them or not - and they HAVE TO BE
TAUGHT to our children as THE LAW.  This is ridiculous and oppressive.  We want to hold on to our freedom
to teach our children what we believe and not what the Federal Government says they have to believe.

There is little opportunity for the teacher to be creative, and pursue a "different" course of action for that student
who has not yet matured, and still teach effectively to a student who "excels".   There is far too much opportunity
for graft.  Watch Dan Rather's two hour report on the public schools in Detroit - we do not want that.  Two of
my grandsons, who have IQ's of 168 and 172 were already constantly put into "group learning" classes -
they did the work and everyone in their group got an A and didn't learn a thing.  This Common Core is simply
a replacement for No Child Left Behind, which was a total failure as they taught to the lowest common denominator -  but this COMMON CORE  is even WORSE.

As we understand it he power to create curriculum should always stay at the local level and that is what this bill will do.  This bill will allow Utah to create its own high quality standards and not be beholden to outside special interest groups that have used Federal bribery through Race to the Top to get us onto Common Core. Common Core isn’t even a complete set of math standards, it’s not college or career ready, and the ELA standards place undue emphasis on informational texts which is not helpful for children’s love of learning.
