Body:
Dear Representative,

I would like write and express my strong support of Rep. Dana Layton's bill on the powers and duties of the State Board of Education. This bill is very important to my wife and I. It would allow Utah to create it's own standards and not be reliant on those created by an outside group in Washington. I have spent many hours studying the Common Core standards, the origins and the creators behind the institution. I have many concerns about the constitutionality and the future effects it will have on our children, their privacy and the involvement parents will have in the education process.

I consider myself very well informed on this topic and strongly believe that we are fully capable as a state of setting and maintaining our own high education standards. It is incumbent upon you as a legislator to help maintain our state's sovereignty and to help protect our natural, parental rights to retain primary control of the education of our children.

In summary, I would please ask you as a member of the House Rules Committee to pass HB 342 so that it can proceed to the full house for a vote.

Respectfully,
Joseph Shumway
